5 Things To Do When Visiting San Francisco

If you are taking a trip to Northern California, you have to visit San Francisco. It is the 13th most populated city in the United States, and there are plenty of things to do there. If your time in San Francisco will be short, there are a few things that you need to see and do before heading home. If you only have time to do a few things while in Sand Francisco, these are the things that you should do.

#1 Go Across the Golden Gate Bridge

The Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most famous bridges in the United States. It runs over San Francisco Bay. When the bridge was first opened, it was the longest suspension bridge ever made.

This bridge is featured on many television shows and movies, but seeing it on TV doesn’t do it justice. If you are going to be in San Francisco, you have to see it for yourself.

#2 Visit the Waterfront At Fisherman’s Wharf

The Waterfront at Fisherman’s Wharf is one of the most popular places in San Francisco. If you are a foodie, the pier has some of the best dining in the world. If you love seafood, there are several gourmet restaurants where you can get seafood that was caught that day. There are also outdoor stands where you can buy food. If you want to tour San Francisco in style, you can set up tours right on the wharf that allow you to see the sights while walking, on a boat, or a Segway.

#3 Visit Golden Gate Park

Golden Gate Park is a popular tourist attraction. Every year, 13 people visit the park. It spans 1,017 acres, complete with playgrounds, gardens, lakes, monuments, and picnic areas. There are always activities taking place at the park, so if you go more than once, the experience could be entirely different.

#4 Visit Alcatraz

Alcatraz Island is located 1.5 miles off the shore of San Francisco. Initially, this tiny island was used for the military. After, it was a military prison and then a federal prison. From 1933 to 1963, Alcatraz held some of the most notorious prisoners in the United States. It was considered inescapable due to its location. It is believed that only a few men escaped from Alcatraz, and whether they made it off alive is unknown.
Today, you can tour the now-famous prison. You can see where Al Capone and Robert Franklin Stroud spent their time while in the prison. If you are a history buff, this is a site that you have to see.

#5 Ride the Cable Cars

Something that makes San Francisco so unique is the cable car system. It is the last manually operated system left in the entire world. At the peak of the system, there were 23 cable car lines running in the city. Today, there are just three, and you should make it a point to take a ride during your trip to San Francisco. This is something that you cannot do anywhere else in the world, and it will be the time of your life.

When visiting San Francisco, there are plenty of things to do – and be sure to take a break at the best rooftop bar San Francisco offers too! When creating your itinerary, make sure the five attractions listed above are on it.
