JANUARY

New Year is one of the main travel seasons in Japan. Many people traveling at the same time. Many places may be closed from December 29 to January 4. Despite the cold, the weather is usually sunny and dry.

FEBRUARY

This is a very snowy season in the north of the country, so if you like to practice winter sports this might be the best time to travel to Japan. In February, the famous Sapporo Snow Festival takes place. The days are relatively short.

MARCH

It is the beginning of the most beloved season in the country, considered by many to be the best time to travel to Japan. At the end of March, the cherry blossoms begin to bloom and the famous Hanami begins. In the second half of March, tourist activity increases a lot.

APRIL

In terms of weather, if your priority is to experience spring, this is the best time to travel to Japan. Some of the most beautiful places to enjoy flowers are the Sakura Festival in Aomori Prefecture and the Ueno Sakura Matsuri in Tokyo. The Golden Week runs from late April to early May. 

MAY

The beginning of the month is marked by the Golden Week. From the second week of the month, the country regains its calm and becomes one of the best times to travel to Japan. In rare cases, you can even find some cherry trees with late flowering.

JUNE

June is marked by the rains. Although it does not literally rain every day, the weather is unpredictable.

JULY

It is usually the rainy season lasts until the first half of July. Humidity increases progressively and summer begins in full swing. This is the start month for Matsuri (Japanese festivals) and fireworks. The biggest festival in the country is Geon Matsuri, held every year since 869. Mount Fuji is open to those who wish to do some climbing.

AUGUST

August is the hottest and wettest month in most of Japan, so it is considered the height of summer. The Matsuri and fireworks are still happening in most cities in the country. The flow of locals traveling between cities increases a lot this month due to the summer school holidays.

SEPTEMBER

Temperatures are starting to drop, but the weather is still quite hot. Typhoons cause heavy rains and winds in large parts of the country. In the month of September, the foliage still has not changed color.

OCTOBER

With the end of the typhoon season, there are fewer rainy days and the weather is much less humid. The trees begin to gain color, especially in the northern regions and at higher altitudes.

NOVEMBER

November brings with it cooler days, but nothing exaggerated. The climate becomes relatively dry and mild.  The streets gain an impressive charm with the colors, the perfume and the delicacy of camellia flower.

DECEMBER

From the middle to the end of the month, the leaves are falling, the streets are covered with dry leaves and the trees are bare. It is the beginning of the ski season in the northern regions of the country. Christmas is not a date celebrated in Japan. December 25th turned out to be a romantic date in Japan. From December 29, some tourist attractions close for the New Year’s holiday.
