“To escape and sit quietly on the beach – that’s my idea of paradise.” – Emilia Wickstead
They say there is nothing more peaceful than embracing the charm of the sun and the soothing vibes of the pristine ocean. As mountain lovers and adventure junkies, my friends and I had never felt this calm and peace.
Some time back, we had decided to visit Mangalore. So one weekend, we booked a flight, reached Mangalore-the coastal beauty, and settled into our cozy hotel rooms. The trip started with us strolling down the road, interacting with a few locals to get an idea about the best beaches there. A lady told us about her own travel story of experiencing the true serenity at the beaches while exploring the untouched and unvisited places just outside Mangalore.
Inspired, we ditched our plans of visiting the famous tourist spots and instead decided to hire a car with a local driver to discover the unexplored. We opted for Savaari taxi booking app for the outstation car rentals service. The booking process on the app was super smooth and we had a courteous driver with his clean and sanitised car waiting at our doorstep in no time! Soon it was time to hit the road to explore four of the best offbeat beaches near Mangalore.
Mattu Beach
The first beach that made it to the top of our list was the Mattu beach (known as the dream territory). Away from the tourists’ hustle-bustle, this beach is situated at a 48 km distance from Mangalore. This lesser-known scenic beauty has everything one could ask for; lush green trees, the most beautiful sunsets and the soothing ocean breeze. For an otherworldly experience, this place is a must-visit.
Maravanthe Beach
The next day, just before sunrise, we drove up to the Maravanthe beach, enclosed between the fascinating Arabian ocean and the Souparnika River. The elegance of this place, mostly missed by everyone, left us speechless. Situated in the foreground of Kodachadri hills, decorated with white sand, the Maravanthe beach runs along the stretches of the NH66 highway. As fishing is popular in this area, this beach is drenched with customs and culture.
Byndoor Beach
After the Maravanthe beach, we navigated to the Byndoor beach, just in time to witness the enchanting sunset. The Byndoor beach is situated at a distance of 124 km from Mangalore and is approximately a two-hour drive. The best way to get there is by booking a reliable Mangalore car rental service with an experienced driver. This beach is a perfect blend of grace and poise. The sunset itself renders the landscape into a dreamy panorama while capturing its aesthetic spirit. There is a resort just by the beach that provides all types of water sport activities as well.
Alvekodi Beach
Wanting to explore the nighttime, we came to the last stop of our weekend the next day – the Alvekodi beach. Situated just 196 km away from Mangalore, this hidden beach in the Alvekodi Village is truly pristine and unspoilt. This beach has a magical ambience with an old lighthouse and serves best for a majestic picnic spot.
Under the purple-blue night sky, sitting beside the glowing ocean waves, we had experienced peace like nowhere else.
